Absolutely.Portugal is one of Europe's most welcoming destinations for first-time visitors. It offers beautiful cities, spectacular coastlines, excellent cuisine, fascinating history, and a relaxed pace that many travellers immediately fall in love with.One of the things I appreciate most about Portugal is that you can experience centuries of history without spending your vacation standing in long queues or rushing between major attractions. Whether you're exploring Lisbon, Porto, the Douro Valley, or the Algarve, Portugal invites you to slow down and enjoy the journey.

If time allows, I almost always recommend both.Lisbon and Porto each have their own personality. Lisbon is lively and colourful, while Porto offers a slower pace, beautiful riverside scenery, and world-famous port wine. Together they provide an excellent introduction to Portugal.With 10 to 14 days, it's also easy to include the Algarve and enjoy several smaller towns along the way, creating a well-paced itinerary that showcases the country's incredible variety.

I generally recommend 10 to 14 days.Although Portugal is relatively small, there's far more to experience than many travellers expect. Ten to fourteen days gives you time to enjoy Lisbon, Porto, and another region such as the Douro Valley or the Algarve without constantly moving between hotels.Portugal is one of those destinations that rewards travellers who slow down and explore beyond the major cities.

Both can be excellent choices.If you have two to three weeks, Spain and Portugal pair together beautifully. If your vacation is shorter, however, I'd usually recommend focusing on Portugal alone rather than trying to see both countries too quickly.Portugal has its own unique culture, cuisine, landscapes, and pace of life. Giving yourself time to experience it properly often creates a much more rewarding vacation.

Without question.The Douro Valley is one of Portugal's most beautiful regions, known for its vineyard-covered hillsides, charming villages, and exceptional wineries. Whether you're interested in wine, photography, or simply spectacular scenery, it's well worth including in your itinerary.There are several wonderful ways to experience the region. Some travellers visit on a day trip from Porto, while others stay at a boutique hotel overlooking the river. One of my favourite recommendations is travelling to the Douro Valley by boat before checking into your hotel. Several of my clients have described it as enjoying their own mini river cruise before their vacation even begins.If you're considering a Douro River cruise, it's also worth knowing that the experience differs from sailing rivers such as the Rhine or Danube. The Douro has its own unique character, making it a wonderful experience in its own right.
